Love, Gilda

New Year’s Day lands on a Tuesday and I don’t think there are many people who celebrate the new year by buying a Blu-ray. That said, while there’s not a lot of releases on this week’s list, a surprising percentage of them are first-run releases. Love, Gilda is the only real contender for Pick of the Week. Bad Times at the El Royale is the second best, but I want to be able to watch the full thing for my review before coming up with a final judgment.

A.X.L. - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
Video on Demand
I forgot this movie existed until I saw it on the new releases list. I think I’m not alone, especially given its box office numbers. It’s not as bad as its box office numbers would suggest, but it is still far from good.

Bad Reputation - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
Video on Demand
A documentary about Joan Jett, which sadly bombed at the box office. The reviews are good and I wanted to get a screener to review, but I was overloaded with work this week and had to decline. It is worth picking up, if you are a fan of the rocker or of rockumentaries in general.

Bad Times at the El Royale - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD, Blu-ray Combo Pack, or 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack
Video on Demand
The screener arrived technically on time, but too late to get a review done on time. I’ll get to it this weekend.

Love, Gilda - Buy from Amazon: DVD
Video on Demand
A documentary about Gilda Radner, mostly told from her own words. It was a great year for documentaries. Is this one of the success stories? Or are there better options out there? Read our review for my opinion.

My Secret Valentine - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
Video on Demand
The first of two Hallmark Channel Valentine movies on this week’s list. Not surprisingly, neither of them have any reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Hallmark Channel original movies almost never do.

Night School - Buy from Amazon: DVD, Blu-ray Combo Pack, or 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack
Video on Demand
This film was a pretty big hit in September, but the critics were not impressed. Who do I side with? Check out our review to find out.

Very, Very Valentine - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
Video on Demand
This is the second Valentine release on this week’s list. There are no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but you will know if you are part of the target audience or not.

Blu-ray Releases - Buy from Amazon:
The Appaloosa - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray
The Bounty - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
Red vs. Blue: The Shisno Paradox - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray Combo Pack
Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray
Trouble - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray Combo Pack
Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here is the Secondary Blu-ray release I’m most interested in.

4K Ultra HD Releases - Buy from Amazon:
Bad Times at the El Royale - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack
Night School - Buy from Amazon: 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack
Bad Times at the El Royale is the better of these two releases. It is not even close.

TV on DVD Megasets - Buy from Amazon:

Video on Demand - Buy from Amazon:
American Illuminati 2 - Reviews - Video on Demand
Halloween - Reviews - Video on Demand
The Oath - Reviews - Video on Demand
State Like Sleep - Reviews - Video on Demand
Trouble - Reviews - Video on Demand
I hope to get a chance to review Halloween when it hits Blu-ray.
