March 14, 2019

Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel led the way on the Theater Average Chart, but it didn’t dominate like it did on the overall weekend chart. It did earn the best average of the year so far at $35,599. The second place film, Gloria Bell, had the third best theater average of the year so far with an average of $29,044 in five theaters. Finally, Babylon opened with $21,214 in its lone theater, which is enough for the seventh place for the year. It was a good weekend at the box office.

There was only a handful of other new limited releases, but a couple of them also did well. 3 Faces opened with $7,065 in one theater, while Badla had an opening weekend average of $6,058 in 94. On the other hand, Ferrante Fever struggled with just $3,509 in one theater. Finally, The Kid missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,919 in 268.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • As expected, Total Dhamaal reached $2 million over the weekend; however, that’s as far as it will go.
  • Apollo 11 topped $2 million before the weekend and got to $3 million during the weekend.
  • Run the Race made it to $5 million over the weekend and it could get to $6 million before the end of its run.
  • Green Book made it all the way to $80 million and it could get to $85 million in the end.
