Thursday Night Previews: Going Through Hell

April 12, 2019

Hellboy

Hellboy opened with $1.38 million in previews last night, which is not enough to be a hit. This would have only put the film in third place last Thursday, well behind both Shazam and Pet Sematary. Furthermore, due to the film’s terrible reviews, it will likely be more front-loaded. Fortunately, this wasn’t too far below expectations.

Little was well back with just $735,000; however, it is targeting the family demographic, so it should bounce back more over the rest of the weekend. In fact, it could bounce back enough to top our prediction and earn second place on the weekend chart.

After actually managed $550,000 during its previews, which might be a good sign. The film is still looking for its first positive review, so if its target audience is likewise unimpressed, it still might open below $5 million during the weekend. On the other hand, if they are not as critical as the critics, then it could top $6 million.

Up next is Missing Link, which only managed $230,000. I don’t see the film recovering after this start, not even with the best reviews of the weekend. It will be just another stop-motion animated bomb.
