JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Set 4, Part 1

It’s Anime week on the Home Market Release Report with more than half a dozen titles on the main list, as well as a few more in the secondary Blu-ray list. In fact, the only real contender for Pick of the Week is an Anime title, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Set 4, Part 1, but it is not the only Anime title worth owning, as Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card - Part Two, Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin, and Steins;Gate 0 Part One and Part Two are also worth picking up. If you want something live action, then go with We Have Always Lived in the Castle.

The Best of Enemies - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
Video on Demand
This film had the biggest box office result on the main list and it bombed in theaters. It is one of those weeks. Additionally, the reviews are mixed and the extras are merely okay. Maybe it is worth a rental if you really like the two leads, but that’s as enthusiastic as I can get.

Black Clover: Season 1 - Part 5 - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray Combo Pack
The first of nearly a dozen Anime releases that appear throughout this report. It isn’t the worst Anime on this list, but is the worst on the main section. That said, it is still widely popular, so clearly it has come qualities that have attracted a fanbase and if you are part of that fanbase, then this is worth picking up.

Bob the Gambler - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
This was supposed to come out today and I even put in a request for a screener, but Amazon says it’s not available, so I don’t know what to say. It is a classic and if you can get it on Blu-ray, do so.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card - Part Two - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray
The original Cardcaptor Sakura is one of the best Magical Girl Animes around. The follow-up might not be quite as good, but it is still worth checking out. The lack of substantial extras does limit its overall value, on the other hand.

Dragon Ball Super: Part Eight - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
We are getting close to the end of the most recent installment in one of the most popular Anime franchises around. At this point, there’s not much more to be said about these releases.

Escape Plan: The Extractors - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray Combo Pack
Video on Demand
I vaguely remember reviewing the first film in this franchise. It isn’t bad, but I don’t think it justified two sequels. As for this film, I think it is coming out this week, but there’s also a July 12th release date on Amazon, so I’m not sure what’s going on.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Set 4, Part 1

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Set 4, Part 1 - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
Every year there’s a new season of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, that season has been one of the best shows Anime had to offer that year. This season is no different. The DVD / Blu-ray doesn’t have a lot of extras, but it does have some interviews with the English-language cast. The Limited Edition comes with a booklet, so it might be worth the extra money. Regardless which version you pick, it is a Pick of the Week contender.

Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin: Chronicle of the Loum Battlefield Collection - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray
Mobile Suit Gundam is one of the longest running Anime franchises of all time and this movie is an excellent starting off point for those who are new to the franchise and it works just as well as those who have been watching the show for decades. There are almost no extras on the Blu-ray, just some promo videos.

Okko’s Inn - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Blu-ray Combo Pack
Video on Demand
This Anime movie actually got a theatrical release with a special engagement. It is about a young orphan who becomes the caretaker of an inn that hosts spiritual guests. The reviews are good and if you are interested in a slice-of-life Anime movie, then this is worth checking out.

The Public - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
Video on Demand
This movie is about a protest at a Cincinnati library on a cold winter night as homeless residents use the library as a makeshift shelter. The reviews are good, but not great, while there doesn’t appear to be any extras, so a rental will be enough for most.

RWBY: Volume 6 - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray
Video on Demand
A fun animated series loosely based on fairy tales like Red Riding Hood and others. It’s been off its peak for the past couple of seasons, but hopefully it will turn things around.

Steins;Gate 0 - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: Part One and Part Two
This series isn’t as good as the original, but it is still one of the best from 2018. The extras on the two Blu-rays are impressive for an Anime release, while the limited edition version of Part One has lots of physical extras.

A Summer to Remember - No Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
Video on Demand
A Hallmark Channel original movie. You know the drill. There are no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but if you are in the target audience, you know if this movie is for you or not.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
Video on Demand
This film earned excellent reviews, reviews good enough that it could have done well in limited release, except it was also a VOD premiere, so it never stood a chance at the box office. Unfortunately, it is only coming out on DVD and while I still think it is worth picking up, it isn’t a Pick of the Week contender.

It’s a great week for fans of Jean-Paul Belmondo with several of his films on this week’s list of secondary Blu-ray releases. I’ve only reviewed one of his films in the past and I quite enjoyed it, so I might grab another of his films this week.

4K Ultra HD Releases - Buy from Amazon:
There appears to be no secondary 4K releases this week, just like last week.

TV on DVD Megasets - Buy from Amazon:
There are also no TV on DVD Megasets; however, that changes next week.

Video on Demand - Buy from Amazon:
Breakthrough - Reviews - Video on Demand
Deadsight - No Reviews - Video on Demand
Robert Reborn - No Reviews - Video on Demand
Shazam! - Reviews - Video on Demand

Shazam! is by far the biggest release on this week’s list and one of the best wide releases of the year.
