Theater Averages: Getting Assistance to Reach the Top

February 7, 2020

The Assistant

It was a busy week for the $10,000 club, as we had four entries, compared to none last week. The Assistant led the way with an average of $19,785 in four theaters. Incitement and José had near identical averages earning $11,219 and $11,191 respectively. Beanpole barely made the $10,000 club with an opening weekend of $10,008 in one theater.

There was only one other new limited release that did well this past weekend. The Traitor opened with an average of $7,747 in three theaters. Created Equal struggled with an average of $3,242, but it was playing in 23 theaters, which is a lot for a documentary. 2020 Oscar Shorts only managed an average of $2,485; however, it was playing in well over 400 theaters and it became the first installment in the franchise to open with more than $1 million.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • 2020 Oscar Shorts opened with more than $1 million, so obviously it made it to that milestone in the process.
  • The Last Full Measure reached $2 million in just two weeks, but it also lost 57% of its opening weekend and could be all but out of theaters this weekend.
