Theater Counts (updated): Fantastic Beasts and Moana Still Widest Releases, La La Land Looms
December 1, 2016
With Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Moana dominating at the box office, there’s not much room for new releases this weekend, although we do have one wide-ish one, and one limited release debuting in over 500 locations. Fantastic Beasts will remain the film widest release, although it drops 156 theaters this weekend to play in 3,988, just a smidgeon ahead of Moana, which stays in 3,875 movie houses.
The widest new release is Incarnate from High Top Releasing, which debuts in 1,737 theaters. Believe will be starting out in 639 theaters for Smith Global Media. Neither film is expected to do huge business.
Looking ahead to next weekend, Office Christmas Party will open in about 2,800 theaters, per Paramount. Miss Sloane expands into 1,600 theaters for EuropaCorp. Noctural Animals is also due to expand, although no official numbers have been announced for it yet. And early Oscar favorite La La Land will be one to watch as it opens in five theaters.
Update: Friday 9.20am, with Miss Sloane numbers.
