Thursday Night Previews: Cloverfield gets Lucky During Its Previews

March 11, 2016

10 Cloverfield Lane

10 Cloverfield Lane had the best results during its Thursday previews with $1.8 million in 2,500 theaters. This is the same as Insidious: Chapter 3 managed last year during its previews. That film opened with $22.69 million over the full weekend, which is a good target for 10 Cloverfield Lane to aim for. With amazing reviews, $25 million is within reach. We will know more tomorrow when we get Friday's estimates.

The Young Messiah opened better than expected with $475,000 in 1,300 theaters. This is a little ahead of Risen's pace and bodes well for its chances of earning a spot in the top five.

The same can't be said of The Brothers Grimsby, which only managed $235,000 in nearly 2,000 theaters. This is less than Fifty Shades of Black managed and that film bombed. The Sacha Baron Cohen flick isn't doing much better with critics, so I doubt the word-of-mouth will help turn its box office fortunes around.

Finally there's The Perfect Match, which we don't have preview numbers for at the moment. We will update this story when they arrive.
