Moonlight

Moonlight remained in top spot with an average of $23,614 in 36 theaters. The film has already reached $1 million and it has room to grow. Additionally, its reviews are Oscar-worthy, so its Awards Season buzz should really start to grow. The only other film in the $10,000 club was Gimme Danger, which earned an average of $14,908 in three theaters.

There were almost no other new limited releases that we have numbers for. Ae Dil Hai Muskkil earned a spot in the top ten with $2.19 million in 302 theaters for an average of $7,256. Mr. Donkey was way back with an average of $4,347 in 20 theaters. Finally, Oasis: Supersonic missed the Mendoza Line with $1,206 in 14 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • The Hollars finally got to $1 million last week after being in theaters for more than two months. It won’t get any further.
  • A Man Called Ove hit $1 million over the weekend. It likely won’t expand further, but getting to $2 million is still a safe bet.
  • I’m Not Ashamed reached $1 million before the weekend. It will get to $2 million this weekend, unless its theater count completely collapses.
  • Moonlight topped $1 million over the weekend. This won’t be the film’s last milestone.
  • Ae Dil Hai Muskkil opened with just over $2 million, so obviously it reached its first and second milestones in the process.
  • Denial hit $2 million before the weekend and just made it to $3 million over the weekend.
