Theater Averages: The End Begins on Top

August 22, 2019

The End of the Century

The End of the Century was the only film in the $10,000 club and it barely got there with $10,398 in one theater.

The next best new limited release was Line Walker 2: Invisible Spy with an average of $5,705 in 17 theaters. Mission Mangal was next with an average of $5,190 in 263 theaters over the three-day weekend. This is even more impressive, because it started on Thursday. Aquarela was also very close behind with an average of $4,951 in five theaters, which is a good start for a documentary. Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles struggled with an average of just $2,846 in two theaters. Sadly, performances like this are common for animated films in limited release. The Divine Fury just missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,907 in 23 theaters. Cold Case Hammarskjold had a near identical average at $1,829, but it was playing in 10 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Mission Mangal opened with more than $1 million, so obviously it got to that milestone in the process.
  • Maiden topped $2 million early in the weekend and shouldn’t have too much trouble getting to $3 million.
