Theater Counts: Ninjago and Kingsman Both Hit 4,000 Theaters this Weekend

Fall season gets under way in earnest this weekend with the release of The Lego Ninjago Movie and Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Both films are expected to do well, and at least one of them should beat current box office champ, It this weekend. Ninjago opens in 4,047 theaters, while Golden Circle launches in 4,003. It will remain in 4,007 movie houses, which gives us three films playing in over 4,000 locations this weekend.
Friend Request is the final wide release of the weekend, playing in 2,569 theaters. Stronger doesn’t quite make it into wide release, but will have a shot at a place in the top ten as it opens in 574 locations.
Next week’s releases aren’t looking particularly impressive right now, with American Made headed for around 3,000 theaters, and Sony’s Flatliners remake predicted to appear in around 2,200.
