Theater Counts: Black Widow poised to remain widest release, but Space Jam close behind

After snagging over $100 million in domestic theatrical earnings in its first six days, Black Widow returns this week with an additional 115 theaters (totaling 4,275), securing its place once again as the widest release of the week. One of three new wide releases this week is the live action/animated hybrid comedy, Space Jam: A New Legacy, starring current NBA legend LeBron James. The film debuts this week in 3,950 locations. The original Space Jam, which starred another NBA icon in Michael Jordan, scored $250 million worldwide when it was released back in November of 1996.

Rounding out the top five widest releases for the week are The Boss Baby: Family Business, playing in 3,443 theaters, F9: The Fast Saga, entering its fourth weekend with 3,365 locations, and the debut of Sony PicturesEscape Room: Tournament of Champions—the sequel to the 2019 hit Escape Room—which brought in $155 million worldwide on a $9 million budget. The latest Escape Room debuts in 2,815 locations. Also worthy of mention this week is the Focus Features documentary about chef, turned world traveler and cultural icon, Anthony Bourdain. Looking ahead to next week we see the release of Paramount PicturesSnake Eyes, starring Henry Golding as the title character. The studio is estimating the film to arrive in 3,300 theaters. Also opening wide is the latest thriller from M. Night Shyamalan in Old. The film about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly will also debut in an estimated 3,300 locations…
