March 10, 2022

The Batman

With no new wide releases launching in theaters this week, last week’s juggernaut, The Batman stays atop this week’s chart, retaining its opening count of 4,417 locations. The latest film featuring the caped-crusader collected a handsome $134 million during its opening weekend and currently sits with domestic earnings in excess of $164 million.

This week should be much of the same as we saw last week, with The Batman leading at the box office, while Uncharted and Dog follow in a still substantial 3,725 and 3,407 theaters respectfully. Rounding out the top five this week is Spider-Man: No Way Home, dropping only seven locations this week, landing at 2,702; and Death on the Nile in 2,450 locations.

Per usual we do see a plethora of limited releases arriving to theaters this week. The Cherry Bushido, the Japanese adventure film from Freestyle Releasing will debut in six locations. Playing at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre for a one-week special engagement is Turning Red. For most however, the film will be available for viewing on Disney+ on March 11 as well. Also opening in limited release this week is Outsiders. The thriller follows a black high school student who finds himself under suspicion after his classmate disappears. While working the clock to clear his name, he unravels a web of secrets that reveal otherworldly forces at play.

Looking ahead to next week, there are once again a couple of wide releases making their way to the big screen. The Outfit which is expected to arrive in about 1,200 theaters follows an expert tailor who must outwit a dangerous group of mobsters in order to survive a fateful night. The film which is directed by Graham Moore, stars a lead-ensemble cast including Mark Rylance, Zoey Deutch, Jeremy Flynn among others. Also making its debut next week is the Sandra Oh supernatural-horror, Umma. The film follows Amanda (Oh) who while living life on an American farm, becomes haunted by the fear of turning into her own mother after her mother’s remains arrive from Korea. Umma looks to debut in 700 locations.
