Uncharted

Although still early in the year, we have our first 2022 film debuting in over 4,000 theaters, and first to do since Spider-Man: No Way Home opened in 4,336 locations back in mid December. This week’s widest release, Uncharted, arrives in 4,275 theaters as it kicks off its theatrical run (Tom Holland seems to be popular these days, huh?). Two other wide releases make their way into theaters this holiday weekend in the way of a buddy comedy and a horror feature.

The latest from United Artists is the comedy, Dog, which stars and is co-directed by Channing Tatum. The film, which lands in 3,677 theaters, follows a U.S. Army Ranger (Tatum), who is tasked with bringing a military working dog named Lulu to attend her handler’s funeral. Reid Carolin co-directs from his own script. Also opening wide this week is the 19th-century-set horror film, The-Cursed. The film, starring Boyd Holbrook and Kelly Reilly, is set to release in an estimated 1,750 locations. As mentioned before however, the biggest film of the weekend is the action/adventure film, Uncharted. The Ruben Fleischer directed film, which is based on a video game series, stars Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg as street-smart thief Nathan Drake and seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan as they attempt to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago. Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali, and Rudy Pankow co-star in the $120 million feature.

Opening in limited release this week is the psychological thriller, A Banquet. The film starring Sienna Guillory and Jessica Alexander debuts in 33 locations. Also arriving in theaters this week is Too Cool to Kill. The action movie from Well Go USA lands in 20 cinemas. Other films arriving at the box office this week are Strawberry Mansion and Ted K, in 31 and 23 locations respectively. Ted K is a crime drama which depicts the true story of Unabomber Ted Kaczynski. Sharlto Copley stars as the titular character.

Looking ahead to next week we see the release of two wide releases: Cyrano and Studio 666. Peter Dinklage stars as Cyrano de Bergerac in the romantic musical drama based on an 1897 play and helmed by Joe Wright. Haley Bennet and Kelvin Harrison, Jr. co-star. Cyrano is set to release in an estimated 750 locations.

Note: The LD Entertainment count is an estimate from Box Office Pro.
