Theater Counts: Newcomer Nobody challenges Tom and Jerry for widest release

After completing another week as the widest release, Tom and Jerry will likely slip into second place this weekend with the release of Universal Pictures’ thriller Nobody, which opens in 2,460 theaters. Still going strong, Raya and the Last Dragon enters its fourth weekend playing in 2,212 theaters.

The two animated features have monopolized the top spots on both the theater count list and at the box office since their respective debuts. The highly anticipated Godzilla vs. Kong enters the mix mid-week next week, and we’re estimating an opening day location count of around 2,600 theaters, expanding to 3,000 theaters once Regal Cinemas open up on Friday. Last week’s lone wide release, and fourth-widest release, The Courier, goes from 1,433 to 1,641 locations, an increase of 208 theaters. New in limited release this week is another feature from IFC Films in Six Minutes to Midnight, based on true events in 1930s Germany, starring Eddie Izzard and Judi Dench; the film will appear in 145 theaters.
